Adventuring Fellows: Mirror Images

Months ago, Balu-Falu and Wagwei pleaded with us to help them save Palometa by going to Qu'Bai Arena in Fei'Yin and getting her back from the evil man who'd taken her. We finally got around to it this weekend, after getting our Beastmasters to level 50 (it's a level 50 capped burning circle fight). We headed to Qu'Bai, getting a bit of aggro on our way through Beaucidine Glacier, but nothing our friendly tiger pets couldn't handy.

Grymalkyn went first, and had a really tough fight. The strategy for Beastmasters is to use a Funguar jug pet, have the NPC set on Stalwart Shield, and pretty much stand behind the NPC while the Funguar and the NPC fight the Demon. Wagwei had 43 MP aspired from him, and didn't cast a single spell. He'd try to use Blessed Radiance, but each time complained that his magical reserves were low. Grym had to keep healing Wagwei, and had to get close enough to be able to hit the demon herself. Grym won, but it was a very close fight.

Balu-Falu and I had a much easier time. Balu-Falu countered Blighted Gloom with Blessed Radiance three times, which did a great deal of damage to the demon. He also used Cure IV on himself at least 3 times, possibly 4, so I didn't really have to cure him at all. My fight was over quickly.

Back when we chose what type of NPC we wanted, everyone claimed that the race didn't matter, and they all had the same stats, but we've learned that's really not the case. Grym's Wagwei is a Galka, and he runs out of MP so much faster than my Tarutaru Balu-Falu. Wagwei doesn't hit any harder than Balu-Falu, but he does seem to have more HP. Grym's so very disappointed in Wagwei that she's even considering starting over with a new Adventuring Fellow, despite all the time invested in leveling and upgrading and questing with Wagwei.

It's easy to get disheartened when you start over, especially if you have a lot of time invested, like Grym does. I say go for it, you two working hard on Grym's new adventuring friend may well spark others to remember they have theirs, and pretty soon we'll all be pulling them back out again.

I was wondering what on earth those NPCs were good for, other than noodling around while farming or using them as an HP buffer. I played with mine for awhile but soon got distracted by other things. Looks like the NPC in combination with a pet could be quite interesting...
