Besieged: Old News

On June 28th, Lakshmi finally lost a Besieged, to the Mamool Ja, after 769 consecutive wins. I really thought it was going to be the Undead Swarm that beat us first, but I thought wrong. It happened around 6PM Eastern on a Thursday evening - which is pretty much still part of our server's "quiet time", when most of the Japanese are still asleep and the North Americans are still getting home from school and work. I wasn't there, apparently there were between 400 and 500 people in Al Zahbi, but they were too busy playing with the still-novel level 8 HNMs to bother keeping the generals alive, and they all fell quickly. This happened soon after world transfers were enabled by SquareEnix, so there's been rampant speculation that some people transferred from Siren to sabotage our Besieged by training the mobs into the Hall of Binding, but I think it was just our own fault. So Siren remains the only undefeated server, and people probably won't care as much as they did when we were trying to maintain our record.

The Astral Candescence was recovered within 10 hours, and we got back to regular Besiegeds starting at level 1. We quickly built back up to level 8s again, and have had a few close calls since then, including one on Sunday evening. With nearly 500 people in the zone at the peak, we should have done better than we did, but after about an hour of fighting, all 5 of our generals were dead, and some of the Mamools were in the Hall of Binding. We were able to get them out either by killing them or kiting them away, but there were lots of deaths in the process, mostly from Mijin Gakure. I think the mobs are pretty stupid - if they were really focused on getting the Astral Candescence, they wouldn't let swarms of puny adventurers picking away at them keep them from just running up and grabbing it once the Hall of Binding was open. Fortunately for us, we can divert them from their intention.
