Chocobos: Early Retirement

Disappointed with our inability to have well-balanced chocobos, RagingTerror and FuryWing have been sent out to pasture. Grymalkyn had given up even visiting RagingTerror regularly, and she had the lowest possible level affection. Plus she was sick, and no stats above poor.

I'd placed FuryWing on a regime of doing nothing but listen to music for several weeks, and did get Discernment and Receptivity up to "a bit deficient", and was able to maintain a decent level of affection (getting it back to "views you as her parent" without too much effort). I ended up breeding her with Yobun's MetalGroove, which knew Autoregen and had stronger discernment and receptivity stats. I sent them on a Gourmet Plan honeymoon, which increases the chance that the chick will be male and will have high strength.

I turned in my egg on 10/30, and haven't really decided what I'll want to focus on for it.

Grymalkyn bred FuryWing with Elboron's SwiftMelody, which has good endurance. Grym opted for the Jeuno Tour honeymoon, and hopes for a female chick. I'm not sure how we get suckered into this Tamagotchi minigame, but looks like we're keeping with it.

My poor AzureTrooper had all Poor stats and was sick, plus I had trouble visiting him regularly. I never bred him with anyone because his stats were so low. Once I got the chocobo whistle I retired him, but he's so slow I almost can't stand it.

I just bought a new eqq, named the chick HurricaneLily and I'm trying to raise her for average strength and endurance, so she'll be like a rental chocobo. Then I can give up playing "virtual pet."

Awww, but they're so cute. How can you not raise them?

And don't you get a feeling of prrride riding a choco you raised from a tiny egg? Getting into the roleplay of it makes it a whole lot more fun.

Yes, they do start out pretty cute. However, when you're visiting them every day, growing a wide range of foods to feed them yourself, giving them a variety of experiences to enrich their development, and you end up with a chocobo that always either sick, injured, or irritated, the cuteness wears off. And has poor stats to boot.

Meanwhile, some jerk who never saw his chocobo more than once while it was growing ends up with better stats and gets lucky and gets one that is at least a different color.

And then the real life annoyances like the horrible load times on the chocobo care instance, and the ever present lack of inventory space for all these new chocobo feeds we need to keep around, and it all adds up to being a very unrewarding chore.

But you see I have been suckered into trying again, knowing now that balance isn't possible, at least not until much later generations. Perhaps I'll be able to raise a chocobo of which I can be proud.

I really hate how... color str and jus about all attribute is random. You waste money and time.. only to find out that the choco isn't the one you want. I think the player should have at least 75% of the control over what should turn out.

I don't know what SE was thinking '-'
